L'INTANNABLEThe UNTANABLE
In moré, the language of the Mossé in Upper Volta (today’s Burkina Faso) the name Conombo means: "untannable", that is, "one, who refuses to let his hide be tanned", or "take him as he is, for he refuses to submit". Doctor Joseph I. Conombo is born in 1917 in a small village in Upper Volta. As an army doctor he takes an active part in the liberation of France in winter 1944/45. In the early Fifties he becomes member of the French government, later mayor of Ouagadougou and foreign minister of Upper Volta. In 1978 he is elected Prime Minister of his country. After a military coup two years later, he is imprisoned for four years. The film is inspired by Dr. Conombo's writings. It first follows the memoirs of "Tinga" (the writer's alter ego).
