L'Homme qui est mort de chagrin
Galicia. November 2002. The Prestige tanker foundered in the Atlantic, spreading an oil slick across the coastline, at the fishing village of Camelle in particular. It was here that Manfred (“Man”) Gnadinger, a German national, moved 40 years ago to build a sculpture garden in harmony with nature. Because he couldn’t cope with the sight of his museum soiled by oil, Man died of sorrow, thus becoming the martyr of the Prestige and the standard-bearer of the popular revolt. His death stirred the conscience of an entire people. This film is a double portrait about the sensitive rapport between sorrow and hope, and the mobilization of Galicians determined to win a war against the failings of the authorities and against these modern-day pirates.
