L'ArgentMoney
Shot in Argentina and Turkey when these countries where in the midst of the worst financial crisis of their history, this film shows how the structural adjustment programs imposed by the FMI destroyed their economies. Caught up in a spiral of debt, these countries were drained of their financial resources. Money is the blood of an economy. Stripped of cash, Argentina’s citizens had no choice but to devise a new monetary system. The world is now full of numerous networks of exchange in products and services using so-called “local” money. Looking in particular at the Argentine barter systems, the filmmaker highlights the impact of these local monies at a time when capital crosses borders so easily.
