Kiba, Tokyo Micropole
How do people live in nowadays Tokyo? This film is a sensitive portrait of Kiba, a sub-district of downtown Tokyo deeply linked to its history and representing town life in its diversity. Every time the filmmaker goes to Tokyo since 1974, she lives there and has a deep feeling for the completeness of that area with its shops and dwellings mingled with factories and workshops. Besides the 300 years old sanctuary, there was the Red Bridge which was dismantled at the very moment she started the shooting. Thus the film is also the story of the rebuilding of the bridge, a strong symbol of that part of Kiba and the story of the fight of the inhabitants to protect their subtle way of life.
