The inspiration for this dance piece is Teshigawara’s unusual perception of the world of objects: he sees them as living matter. For him, books are a dominant element in a setting, and contain a secret life. Their invisible palpitations and whispering memory attract the dancer and inform the choreography. Saburo Teshigawara, born in Tokyo in 1953, is the greatest living Japanese choreographer. Freeing himself from the conservative trends that hindered Japanese dance into the 80s, he created his own innovative choreographic vernacular, one based on a ongoing search for freedom.
