Grock
This is the first documentary about the life of Grock, the most famous clown of the 20th century. In Switzerland, where he was born in 1880, Grock grew up in poverty, but rose through music-halls around the world to become the best paid artist of his time. Among his fans and admirers were Winston Churchill, King George V, as well as Adolf Hilter and Joseph Goebbels. The film includes hitherto-unseen documents on this fascinating and contradictory artist. It also focuses on Grock’s involvement with the Nazi regime during the Second World War. Descendants and friends, such as Maurice Chevalier, Michel Simon and Caterina Valente, remember Grock’s genius. The documentary also includes long missing numbers of this multitalented clown.
