Fa 5e
F5: an extremely high note for the human voice, which can be attained only by angel-voiced castratos so typical of an era. Documentary films rarely capture the magic of the theater. Here that magic is observed in the wings, calculated during rehearsals, filmed in performance before an audience. In Alain Guyard’s play, a fantastical universe serves as a backdrop for questions about the myths of contemporary society using a fable inspired by the beliefs of the ancient Gnostics. Two archetypical figures, the Demiurge and Sophia clash over a castrato. The unusual being embodied by male soprano Yves Le Pech is the object of many passions. For Guyard, his play oscillates between spiritual exaltation and the ambivalent feelings of sophisticated pleasures.
