Painter Dado was born in Montenegro and has been living in France since 1957. He’s an unclassifiable artist. Critic Alain Bosquet says Dado never related to any school, that he is in perpetual mutation and that pictorial realism never managed to fit his own mental unrealism. It’s not quite by chance that he often quotes his friends Henri Michaux and E. M. Cioran. For a better understanding of Dado’s creative processes, I have decided to follow him in his work. In 1999, this eternal exile, an atheist, began to paint a chapel, not far from his studio, in Gisors. It’s been going on for 4 years. The chapel was part of a former leper-house built 800 years ago by hospitallers and military monks of the St Lazarus Order.
