Cyberflics contre cyberpédophiles
It is against French law to possess and disseminate sexually explicit images of minors. In 1997, following the Dutroux affair and the explosion of child pornography over the Internet, France created a special task force to combat cyber-pedophilia. Linked to Interpol, this unit overseas the dismantling of child pornography rings. During an entire year, from late 2003 to late 2004, the camera filmed these new style police in the course of investigations, house searches, confiscations of hard disks and arrests. We are thus ushered into the world of virtual sexuality which sometimes can lead to criminal acts; we are shown how the means of exchange and dissemination are deciphered; the approaches to the psychology of a new kind of “consumer” of forbidden images, who with a simple click of the mouse, relentlessly recorded somewhere in the labyrinth of the “cyber-memory” can lapse — sometimes without even realizing it — into delinquency.
