For an entire year, Patrick Delfosse and Sergio Ghizzardi followed the negotiations that led to the drafting of the European Union constitution. They sought to understand the imperatives and motivations of such a project. Between those seeking to strengthen the construction of Europe and those out to weaken out, the battle was a bitter one. For an entire year, politicians oversaw the projected EU constitution. As in any human undertaking, the Convention exuded the sense of shared interest, determination and strategy but also personal weaknesses and mistakes. Convention is an historic fresco. Its protagonists are Valéry Giscard d’Estaing, Jean-Luc Dehaene, Giuliano Amato, three statesmen with their own convictions about the European Union.
