Claude Lelouch, l'homme à la caméra d'or
I still remember my first review in the Cahiers du Cinema: Claude Lelouch... remember that name. You won’t be hearing it again. But the opposite happened in 1964, with Une fille et des fusils, then a documentary about the Tour de France, Pour un maillot jaune. In 1966, came the Palme d’or at Cannes for A Man and a Woman, Overnight. Claude Lelouch became the most famous filmmaker in France. From then on, he would make a film a year, alternating intimate dramas, historical sagas, thrillers and comedies, which oscillated between success and failure. We try to film truth (...) I like to work with people who are in the present, I don’t want actors to read a script, because I don’t know the date of my death.
