CCCP Hockey
They were the world’s best hockey players, nicknamed “The Super Five", “The Big Red Machine", and “The KLM Troïka". In the 80's everyone knew their names by heart: Fetisov, Kasatonov, Krutov, Larionov and Makarov. They were unbeatable and were the Soviet Union’s last propaganda machine, under the leadership of its coach, the despotic hockey fanatic Viktor Tichonov. This is a tale of sacrifice and ruthless demands and of a revolt against the system set in motion by Larionov and Fetisov and aimed primarily at Viktor Tichonov. Tichonov, 74, today coaches the Russian national hockey team together with the only member of “The Super Five” who stood up fo him in the revolt: Alexei Kasatonov.
