Bhopal, the Search for Justice
On December 2, 1984, the release of poisonous methyl isocynate gas from the Union Carbide plant in Bhopal, India killed tens of thousands of people and maimed hundreds of thousands more. It was, and remains, the world's worst industrial disaster. Nineteen years later, amid charges of corruption and graft, little compensation has been paid to the victims and their families. Bhopal is a sad disgraceful testament of the absence of environmental and human justice. This documentary will explore and analyse the prospect for environmental and human justice in Bhopal, and elsewhere. At stake is more than fair compensation for the many affected. Bhopal has become a test case for international environmental law and human rights.
