On the threshold of the 16th century, Europe experienced the flight of Jews from the Spanish and Portuguese inquisitions. They often found refuge in trade centers and port cities. Some settled in Bayonne, on the Spanish border. This documentary shows how the Jews played a major role in the city’s economic and architectural growth. It also provides an objective look at the relations between Jewish immigrants and the local population.
