Après le GoulagAfter the Goulag
150,000 Poles were deported to the USSR. Born in Warsaw in 1921, Mieczyslaw Falkowsky experienced the gulag in the northern reaches of the Soviet Union. At the end of the war, he began to publish scientific books, and in the 60s moved to Switzerland to escape the repressive Russian bureaucracy. In 2003, he returned to the place of his detention in the Komi Republic, a region colonized by Stalin in the 30s in order to exploit its oil resources. Falkowsky met former prisoners who, like him, had worked in the oil fields.
