Voyage dans l'irréalité immédiate
Seen from the bridge of the West, Romania seems like a lost continent of uncertain shape, a iceberg drifting from East to West. In the visible part of the iceberg we can glimpse images of stray dogs, child beggars, shady orphanages. In the submerged part of the iceberg are incomprehensible traces of ice-covered history. In successive historical layers are stocked the fragments of contradictory, vague, false discourse. A frozen memory. A memory hammered into the mind of each Romanian. The country lives in terror. Terror of everything: Wretched daily lives. Change. Any kind of change. Memories of past terrors. The fear of terrors to come. Each Romanian, clinging to the past, rushes to liquidate the present, a bad moment to be endured, to slip into an amnesiac imaginary world. And this is how we met the inhabitants ot this sick land. We filmed four of them, scalpel-like. In suspended, otherworldly time, in their interiors. In the gray light of a continental summer.
