Cripurizao is a makeshift mining town on the banks of the Cripuri River, in the middle of the Amazon rain forest. Santarém, the closest town, is over 600 miles away. The chances of a woman finding a job in a mining town are scarce, as mining is basically a man's work. So, there are three choices left for a woman: cooking, prostitution or... selling beauty products. In the last few years, hundreds of women, at the risk of their lives, have made their way by canoe along malaria-infested rivers to sell perfumes, creams, soaps and other beauty products in the heart of the Amazon rain forest.
