For the past 10 years, Antonio Tabucchi has been thinking about a novel he has trouble finishing. It’s about the long summertime death throes of Tristano, an old man who, lucid or delirious, relates his life story and that of Italy of the 20th century. To get over his writer’s block, Tabucchi decides to describe his novel to the two filmmakers and thus involve us in his creative process. If he can’t finish his novel, there will at least be a “video testament” that can help anyone who wants pick up this story and complete it.
