Trieste sotto
Is there a place in the world where the birthdays of Hitler, Tito and the King of England have been celebrated? This place exists: it’s called Trieste and the time is 1945. For 12 years, from 1943 to 1954, Trieste was occupied three times: from September 1943 to April 1945, it was under the Nazi boot; then, from May to June 1945, under the Yugoslavs; and from 1945 to 1954, the city was occupied by the Anglo-American forces. Using rare film footage, this film details the struggles, horrors, inexpressible tragedies, bombing, deportations and reprisals endured by Trieste, a city “in the front lines.”
