The World Stopped Watching
Fifteen years ago in Nicaragua, director Peter Raymont revealed in The World Is Watching, the daunting truth of journalism. In 1987, at the height of the US government's campaign against the Sandinistas, Peter Raymont's The World Is Watching followed several journalists working in Nicaragua during the negociations surrounding the Arias peace plan. The world then saw and learned to question information. Fast forward to 2002, Contras, Cold War and Reagan's "Evil Empire" have disappeared into the history books. For the international press, and consequently the planet, Nicaragua has faded back into sleepy backwaters. In other words,The World Stopped Watching. With the veteran journalists who covered the event, Peter Raymont has returned to Nicaragua to explore what has happened to the people and to the country while the world looked elsewhere.
