Siberian Diaries
A documentary account of the fate of four thousand children deported from Latvia in 1941. Only one out of ten survived. The director conducted 180 video interviews and the work goes on. Parts one and two cover the period 1941-1946; they reveal how, in a single night, more than 15,000 Latvians were imprisoned and deported to Siberia. Men were sent to the Gulag, where they get shot or starved to death. Women and children over ten had to endure hard labor. Most perished due of the lack of food, clothing and medical care. Russian propaganda called those people “fascists.” When the war was over, the survivors began to hope of returning home.
