Salvo d'Acquisto
In a village near Rome, on the morning of September 23, 1943, an SS patrol rounded up 22 men to be executed in reprisal for the killing of two German soldiers. Salvo d'Acquisto, a young Italian officer, claimed responsibility for the murders in order to save the others. The film is about how this young man from Naples came to make such a courageous choice. Through the events of the war years, between Italy and the North African campaign, we see how his thwarted love for Irene and his enduring friendship with Walter mark Salvo's short but turbulent life and lead him this fateful decision…
