Rendez-vous à PékinMeeting in Beijing
Xiaoling, a young Chinese woman who has been living in Paris for several years now, returns to Peking. As she walks around and meets people, she has trouble recognizing her city, which is undergoing major transformations. We follow her as she rediscovers her city. Through the various sensations she feels, we learn what this city has become today. To make contact with its inhabitants, Xiaoling invites them to play a game. Simple questions about daily life are written on small pieces of paper and lots are drawn. Through this ludic approach, people relax and speak out, a feeling of complicity is created, often humorously so. Whether they are students, jobless, children playing in the street, an old opera fan, or pluckier souls who go bathing in Lake Hohai in sub-zero temperatures, the people of Peking reveal themselves to be stimulating and spontaneous, nothing like the clichés images of them.
