This film delves into German identity through three parallel, overlapping and subjective journeys. The first is a journey into the past. Drawing on personal archives and relatives, it describes the life of an “average” German family—the director’s family. The second journey is through today’s reality, from West to East, in search of its inhabitants. The third is an ethereal voyage. It takes us into the imaginary world of literature and popular German culture, guided by the emblematic figure of German romanticism, the “Wanderer.”
