For All My Life

During the summer of 1941, Latvia was occupied by Nazi troops. After having exterminated all the Jews in the city of Sabile, the SS rounded up all the Gypsies and ordered them to dig their own graves. Then they were lined up by the holes, ready to be executed. Martins Berzins, the mayor, intervened, declaring: These are my citizens. If you want to kill them, you must kill me as well.” This is how he saved the lives of more than 200 Gypsies. This film is a report on the gypsy community that still lives in Sabile.
