O Risco - Lucio Costa e a Utopia ModernaThe Line - Lucio Costa and the Modern Utopy
Lucio Costa is one of the rare personalities in Brazil to naturally cross personal history to the nation’s construction. The film tells the story of the renowned urbanist and architect as well as the building up of Brazilian modern architecture, using extensive archive footage. Having Brasília as a natural kick-off and goal in 1960, the film converges to Brazil’s capital all along the narrative, allowing us to follow Costa’s non-linear way of thinking and conceiving a story. Interviews with Costa’s relatives let us find a country starting to lift off to its utopia, critically discussing its circumstances instead of simply praising it. Lucio Costa appears as a character with multiple relations. These are made clearer through the relationship with Le Corbusier and Niemeyer, Costa standing out as a key figure to the building of Brazilian modern architecture: a realized utopia, still asking to be addressed.
