Nous, de ce pays bouleversé
From Cayenne to Kourou, via Saint-laurent and as far as Apatou, on the far side of the River Maroni, the film explores modern-day Guyana as compared with the journey made here in 1938 by the Guyanese poet Léon-Gontran Damas. The main phases of his intense “Return from Guyana” are interwoven with the filmmaker’s personal notes and observations. We thus return to the epochal upheavals that laid bare the economic and social agitation that have affected the country for years. But we return from this distended mosaic of a country with a feeling of paradoxical harmony: everyone feels Guyanese in his own way.
