Muscoli, Colossi e FantasiaMuscles, Giants and Fantasy
The documentary recollects the golden age of the so-called 'Peplum' films which were typified by the adventures of mythical heroes and characters from popular literature. The success of the films dedicated to these characters began at the end of the Fifties and continued with increasing passion until the mid-Sixties. It was innocent, simple cinema which could count on the great imaginative resources of italians directors. They often used actors who were culled from the gymnasium or international body-building competitions for their physical prescence. The contribution of great originality offered by the craftsmen and the set designers of Cinecittà to the spectacular historical reconstructions elevated the quality of Peplum films to the point where international recognition was received from the French critics.
