Moi, Hector Berlioz...
The film is entirely subjective. Berlioz is the camera. We only see him as he sees himself - his hand enters frame, his shadow goes before him and, occasionally, his reflection appears in a mirror. He himself tells us the story of his life, both as musician and lover. His voice guides us along this journey into the past. However, this is not a monologue. The principal characters that Berlioz meets speak to him via the camera lens. Actors play those characters. Transitions between still pictures and living actors are based on the technique used by director Eric Rohmer for his movie “L’Anglaise et le Duc”. A docu-drama based on the Memoirs of Hector Berlioz, on many iconographic documents and, above all, on the musical excerpts which give a true dimension to the incandescent personality of Hector Berlioz.
