Maigret et l'ombre chinoise

In the courtyard of an apartment building, Maigret investigates the murder of Pierre Boyer, the head of a thriving company, shot in the chest in his office on the eve of payday. Maigret’s sympathies quickly go out to the victim: a self-made man in his 50s, a nice guy, who probably was imprudent enough to prematurely outline a will. Among the suspects, the three women in Boyer’s life: Germaine Martin, his ex-wife, remarried to Edgar Martin, a small-time civil servant, Madeleine Dormoy, Boyer’s new wife, the daughter of a penniless bourgeois family, and Nina Moinard, a former nightclub dancer and Boyer’s mistress, who was like a breath of fresh air in the dead man’s life. Maigret also suspects Daniel Boyer, the victim’s son with Germaine Martin. Maigret uncovers a terrible family drama, one which Mathilde, an old co-tenant who is always lurking behind doors, knows intimately.
