Les Orphelins de Duplessis
This film is about the thousands of illegitimate children who, in the Quebec of the 50s, were interned in psychiatric hospitals. We meet the victims who relate their sufferings: forced medical care, straitjackets and cells, physical violence, repeated rape, unpaid work. Eugene fell genuinely ill and never left the hospital. Jacqueline was scarred for life. Joseph is still under the influence of the church. Antoine, like the others, received no schooling and had great difficulties becoming a member of society. Through these poignant and appealing people, the film points a finger at those responsible for this situation, the clergymen and doctors who, unlike the government of Quebec, still refuse to apologize and compensate the victims.
