Le Tour selon Blondin
A simple sporting event, the Tour de France? No, of course not, and this for the past century. A monument, an institution, a legend, a saga, studded with heroes, high places, battles, drama, glory, pain and even suspicion. Every July... France is re-charted, rediscovered and transformed into an epic setting for the cult of the “little queen,” a bicycle-turned-steed which has fashioned a mythic, quasi-universal aura for itself. Why this never-ending infatuation, which brings out the crowds, the sponsors, the television channels of the world and which nothing, not even the doping scandals, cannot tarnish? How do we explain this magic, this emotion, this atmosphere, this scent so characteristic of the Tour and which has endured in certain families of fans (and fanatics) for four generations now?
