Le Pays des enfants perdus
The Island of La Réunion, January 1966. Isidore, 14, and his little sister Juliette, 10, play in the fields of sugar cane, watched affectionately by their aunt, Mamilouise, unaware of the drama unfolding in Paris in the corridors of power. Faced with the rapid depopulation of the Creuse département and in an attempt to repopulate a region where agriculture plays a predominant role, the local representatives have had the bright idea of "transplanting" a lot of children from Reunion to France. Isidore and Juliette are picked to be part of the first shipment. They are sent by plane to a home in Guéret where they meet up with their young companions in misfortune, including Freddy. After a few weeks, a family takes Isidore in, leaving his sister Juliette alone with Freddy. Concerned about his sister who has become withdrawn since his departure, Isidore runs off to join Juliette at the home. The home's head separates the children, entrusting Juliette to a family of cattle breeders on the Millevache plateau. The two children, hurt by this separation, withdraw into their own worlds: Isidore into music and Juliette into her dreams inhabited by Creole ghosts and voodoo magic.
