The thoughts of a dead man, awakened in his grave by a phone call. He’s asked to call on a blind painter who paints in the dark. After wandering all night long in a wan light of Paris, he arrives at the atelier. He meets Kafka, who is posing for the blind painter. Death looks at the canvases and recognizes his portrait. Amid general indifference, he goes out into the street, crosses Paris back to Montparnasse cemetery and gets back in his coffin to become a corpse again.
