La Route de Jénine
In April 2002, in the wake of a series of deadly suicide bombings that claimed 100 civilian lives, Israel decided to attack the terrorist infrastructures on the West Bank by launching “Operation Rampart”. Tsahal entered Jenin on April 2, prohibiting most of the medias from covering the fighting. This gave rise to the rumor of a massacre that would be front-page news for several days and result in a request for a UN inquiry commission. But the term “massacre” continues to be used to describe what happened between April 2 and 23,2002. Pierre Rehov tries to retrace the phases of this battle, using the testimonies of Palestinians, combatants and civilians, and Israeli soldiers. Never-broadcast archives help us better understand the state of minds of both sides, while a high-risk reportage inside Jenin allows us to decipher certain information.
