La Longue MarcheTheLong March
A multitude of people from all over the Buddhist world walk in incessant circles around the Stupa, a huge white monument of uncertain function. Pilgrimages to the Stupa, a trade and religious hub located a few miles from Katmandu, seem as mysterious to us as Notre Dame can seem to a pygmy. Those who live here, pilgrims, monks or merchants, together practice a set of rituals whose sole aim seems to be their unfailing worship of this huge round monument. But behind these multiple acts of worship, which can often seen like mere superstition, lurks a mysterious, multifaceted and magical world. But for how much longer? Invaded by tourists, new age music and soft drinks, room for spirituality diminishes more each day.
