La Farina del diavolo : Incontro con Stockhausen
Interview with German compositor Karlheinz Stockhausen at the Salzburg Festival, after the performance of the "Helicopter String Quartet", a scene from one of the sections of his vast cycle of music dramas, "Light". "Helicopter String Quartet" is a composition that expresses the complexity of Stockhausen's research and the production of his operas. This work was made up of a string quartet, four helicopters with pilots and four sound technicians, four television transmitters, 4 x 3 sound transmitters, an auditorium with four columns of loudspeakers, a sound projectionist with mixing console. The German composer talks about his "spiritual music" and how people should listen to it. The technological development and its link to musical expression, the influence of his passion for est-cultures on his work are other subjects discussed by Stockhausen, who also reveals the proximity of his music and certain kinds of pop music.
