La Bataille de Sacramento
December 1861. The Union and the Confederacy are at war, following the secession of the southern states. Kentucky alone symbolizes the situation of the United States: its counties, cities and families are divided. In the small town of Sacramento, the troops of a hitherto obscure southern officer, Nathan Bedford Forrest, launches a successful surprise attack on the troops of a Union major. Sacramento thus becomes the scene of a lightning battle that ends at nightfall with Forrest's first victory. May 2003: in 142 years, Sacramento did not change much. Here and there people still talk about this battle which put a small, little-known town in the history books. This weekend, Sacramento gives a life-sized representation of Forrest's first battle. Through the reconstitution of this decisive battle, the film takes a new look at the War Between the States and the real economic and imperialistic stakes behind it.
