Jesús Soto el artista cinéticoJesús Soto, the Kinetic Artist
Venezuelan artist Jesus Rafael Soto (b. 1923) is one of the creators of kinetic art. He began by working on the repetition of geometric elements and the superimposition of screened Plexiglas. In 1958, he began his series, Vibrations, using steel wire and suspended, mobile wooden rods. In 1968, on a commission from the Renault auto plants in Boulogne-Billancourt, he created an installation with 250,000 painted steel rods. In the past few years, his work has been exhibited in museums, galleries, parks and gardens in Europe, Japan, Canada, Nicaragua and the United States. But behind these works is a man whose face, voice, expression, laughter and passion for the guitar are less well-known. This is a tribute to the man, a look at the artist’s private life and thinking that better helps us understand his work.
