Iris - Time
A woman who sold contemporary art. The place is Paris, the time the 60s. Iris made a name for herself and became a source of irritation. She didn’t belong to the inner circle, she was both visionary and blind, but she had unfailing vitality, and she adventurously embodied in her own way the artistic adventure of the 50s and 60s, taking on her times in an oblique way. In her mind, one had to “create the event.” Doing so, she inaugurated the era of marketing the plastic arts. In the course of a winding and sometimes disjointed itinerary, Iris Clert discovered or confirmed the then-despised plastic artists who today make up an indisputable pantheon. Between 1956 and 1985, she organized some 250 avant-garde art shows, which were born of her enthusiasm, complicity and meetings with some of the major artists of the 20th century. This film is the chaotic story of these meetings, and attempts to situate Iris Clert in her time.
