Ilf - dvoinaya expozitciyaIlya Ilf: Double Exposure
Ilya Ilf and Evgeny Petrov are famous figures in early 20th century Russian culture as the authors of two great satiric novels, The 12 Chairs (1928) and The Golden Calf (1931). Apart from his writing, Ilf was also an amateur photographer. Today, his photos have considerable documentary value: they include scenes that even the Russian film archives didn't think of conserving. Ilf thus assembled a large number of photos of Moscow, of his family and friends and some major figures of his day, such as Mayakovsky, photographed by Ilf shortly before the poet's suicide in April 1930. This film is made up of photos he shot all through his life. The commentary is taken from his notebooks.
