HK Tale

After more than 150 years as a British colony, Hong Kong reverted to Chinese control. Miyuki Lam, a 21-year-old Chinese, and Ishtiaq Khan, a flight officer with Nandas Airlines and a cricket champion at 26, live a few yards from one another on Shelley Hill Avenue. They have never met. In this film, constructed like a fiction film, we follow these two individuals at home and at work. Miyuki works a great deal, much too much. He is a candidate for “karoshi” —death from overwork. We see him being released from the hospital after his most recent suicide attempt. Ishtiag’s Muslim team has just lost a big cricket match to South Korea. Like many young people of their generation, Miyuki and Ishtiag struggle to free themselves from the yokes of capitalism, religion, loneliness and despair.
