A film about the major figures of Algerian music: Cheikha Rabia, the queen of traditional raï, and Bellemou, creator of modern raï. The concerts are filmed in close quarters, separating the performers from their setting and thus putting the accent on the individual performance style of each musician and dancer. The play of shapes and colors, reworked in a highly rhythmic editing, reinforces the trance-like sensations already produced by the music. Images of the northern Paris suburbs are interwoven with the concert footage as backdrop to Cheikha Rabia and Bellemou’s comments on raï.
