Enfants bouviers, esclaves modernes
In Chad, the war on poverty has begun. All the failing sectors are being registered, examined and analyzed to find the right orientation for stimulating new development. Among the problems is a recent phenomenon concerning child labor. Poverty is forcing parents to send their children to work as herders among stockbreeders for a year. In return, they receive a calf. Is the child an item of trade? How does this practice, which is no secret, continue without impunity? What are a child’s right? Former child herders speak. Their parents too. The authorities must find solutions and put an end to this practice.
