Die Verschwoerung - Aufstieg und Fall des Salvador AllendeRise and Fall of Salvador Allende
Two photos of the same man. One taken when he was a young man, the other after the death of Che Guevara. Two photos of two faces, two “souls” — the dandy, the son of wealthy parents, and the revolutionary, gun in hand. But don’t they represent, rather, the two extremes of a dream shared by an entire generation and embodied by Allende? A dream Allende personified so much that he paid for its failure with his own life. During the 1000 days of the Popular Unity government, this dream, known as the “Chilean example,” was disseminated, then betrayed by one and the same man—the president of Chile, Salvador Allende. The story of the Popular Unity government is the story of a downfall that has much to tell us today when analyzed in the light of previously inaccessible documentation.
