Ella Jansen has been ready for this moment ever since she became head of the Weissenburg maximum-security prison: an inmate has taken a hostage. By convincing him to release the female guard and take her instead, Ella puts herself both in mortal danger – and in the best position to negociate with the convicted murderer. But the State’s elite police unit swoops down on the prison, causing the inmate to panic – and to rape Ella. Yet it is she, and she alone, who ultimately convinces him to give up. The following day, Ella is stunned upon hearing the official version: the police freed Jansen by invading the “chaos jail”. Ella is dismissed from her post, an injustice that humiliates her more than the rape. But she is determinate to fight. With the help of a police psychologist, she unmasks a behind-the-scenes power play between the State’s minister of the Interior and Justice in which she has unwittingly become the pawn…
