Cidade dos Homens
The City of Men is the sequel to the “Palace II” episode, aired on Brazilian television at the end of 2000 as part of the series Brava Gente, also produced by O2 Filmes. The story is set in a favela of the suburbs of Rio de Janeiro, where Laranjinha and Acerola, two young boys of 13, live and attend school. To pay for an outing with their history class, the two youths get involved with drug dealers in their favela. (A Coroa do Imperador) Acerola realizes his sister is in love with Deco, a drug-dealing favela chief. He tries to persuade her to stay away from him. But his new brother-in-law is particularly generous to him. (O cunhado do cara) Later, because there is no post office in the favela, they are hired to deliver mail on the condition that they lose no letters. To honor their contact, they decide to draw up a map of the quarter, which will also help the other postmen. They realize this activity can be very profitable. But their mapmaking work, which identifies streets and dead-ends in the favela, is hardly appreciated by the drug dealers. (Correio) The complete series (1 to 4) can be seen at the Fipatel
