Chow Dong Hoy: Portraits from the Frontier
C.D. Hoy was a Chinese immigrant, photographer, entrepreneur, and family man. This documentary chronicles his extraordinary life in British Columbia at the turn of the century. We follow C.D. Hoy’s footsteps as he seeks employment and gold in the Canadian wilderness, and eventually establishes himself as a portrait photographer. Drawing on a rare historic photo and film archive, first-hand memoirs of Hoy himself and present-day commentary, this film richly and warmly portrays a slice of history from a new perspective.
