Chagall, À la Russie, aux ânes et aux autresChagall, To Russia, Asses and Others
André Malraux once said of the artist who contributed extensively to the renewal of twentieth century esthetics, "he is drunk on images". Chagall: To Russia, Asses and Othersl pin points the ways in which the artist's work was ground breaking. The film provides a dramatization of Chagall's life in parallel with an analysis of the major symbolic themes, taken from popular beliefs and sacred scriptures, which recur in his work. Privately held archives and filmed interviews held by INA are used to frame the artist's lively participation as he reexamines his past and discloses his secrets, from his studio in Vence.
