CG Fukugen Document - Yomigaeru Bakushin no MachiHiroshima Reborn: Streets Reconstructed from Memory
Not a trace of the shops, inns, homes and schools of Sarugakucho district remained in the wake of the explosion of "Little Boy" on August 6, 1945. Only the skeleton of the former Industrial Promotion Hall was recognizable, its naked, oval-shaped dome marking the spot that stood within a few hundred feet of Ground Zero. Today, this once handsome building is known as the A-Bomb Dome, and is a part of the world-famous Hiroshima Peace Memorial. Though it now stands alone in its park-like setting, thanks to the magic of 3D computer graphics, it is now possible to tour Sarugakucho, walk its cobblestone lanes and even enter some its shops and residences where you can explore exquisite interior gardens and view the comfortable furnishings within. Hiroshima City University was among the major sponsors of a ground-breaking project that, with the help of a handful of aging survivors and their personal photographs and diaries, made this remarkable "virtual restoration" come to life.
